QUIZ 3 will cover all of Chapters 26 and 27. In my final minutes of todays lecture I derived the formula for the resistance of a length of wire of conductivity (sigma) and Area A but by mistake put (sigma) in the numerator instead of the denominator, so please correct your notes. The correct formula is: R = (length) / [ (sigma) x (Area) ] . I also forgot to mention that the quantity (rho) which stands for the resistivity of a material is the inverse of the conductivity (sigma). Thus we have: R = (rho) x (length)/ (Area) Please see Eq. (27-7) in textbook. This will be gone over again in Monday's lecture so there should be no confusion.
