COURSE CONTENT:
Continuation of Physics 2A covering charge and matter, the electric field, Gauss law, electric potential, capacitors and dielectrics, current and resistance, electromotive force and circuits, the magnetic field, Ampere's law, Faraday's law, inductance, electromagnetic oscillations, alternating currents and Maxwell's equations.

COURSE FORMAT:
Lectures: Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as Monday January 4th. Attendance is strongly encouraged.
Discussion Sections: These sections focus on understanding of theory and methodology, as well as problem solving. You are advised to attend these sections and to make them successful by actively participating.
Problem Sections: These sections focus on problem solving, in preparation for the quiz. You are encouraged to attend and ask questions on homework problems as well as on lecture material.
Quizzes: Mondays, as detailed in the Course Schedule. Attendance to quizzes is mandatory.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:
Problems from the books will be assigned for each text chapter, solutions will be posted on the web page . To fully understand the material, you should work most of the problems on your own without help of the solution key. Homeworks will not be graded.

QUIZZES:

• Closed-book multiple choice quizzes will be given on Mondays (except first week and holidays). 7 quizzes, see schedule.
• Students must purchase scantrons for quiz (and final) taking (form number X101864-PAR-L). The Scantron cards are sold at the bookstore. At the first quiz, you will be assigned a 3-digit number as your code number, which you will write on the front of every scantron you use during the quarter along with the course number and quarter (and your name if you like). You will need a No. 2 pencil to fill in the scantron. Scantron forms are not returned to students.
• Your overall quiz grade will be computed from the best 5 of the 7 quizzes and count 50% toward the final grade.
• There will be no make-up quizzes (you can miss up to 2 quizzes without penalty since only 5 quizzes count). If you anticipate missing more than two quizzes due to unavoidable circumstances, you must discuss this with the instructor beforehand.

FINAL EXAM: The final will be a closed-book multiple choice exam and cover all course material. Student I.D. is required to take the exam.

COURSE GRADE: Quizzes 50% , Final 50% .
